Amazon AWS, and the Amazon
AWS S3 service in particular, has been a great pioneer in "public cloud
services" - even before it was even called "cloud" storage. But as
the industry has grown and more companies and applications have adopted outsourced
data storage services, Amazon's "one-size-fits-all" storage model doesn't
make sense for many applications.
Amazon and others have responded by layering CDNs on top of their primary storage
for even higher-performance access, and block storage for other, but what about
backups and less frequently answered data?
Storing your backups on Amazon S3 is like flooring your car's gas pedal at a stop
light.
Diomede enables you to shift data to the appropriate storage type (Online, Nearline,
or Offline) as demand for your data changes.
- Diomede Offline Storage is 5 times less expensive than Amazon S3 with no
contract (and even less expensive when you purchase a
24-month contract).
- In addition to the cost savings, we estimate that for every 1 terabyte of data that
is moved from Amazon S3 to Diomede Offline Storage more than 500 pounds of CO2 emissions
are saved per year.
- Diomede's Online Storage is comparable performance and 50% less expensive than Amazon
S3's single storage type. Plus, if you need to archive that data in the future,
moving it to Diomede Nearline Storage or Diomede Offline Storage is just a click,
web service call, or script away.
